The Couse (“cooz”) is a small, beautiful subspecies of whitetail deer native to Arizona and the desert Southwest. This little gem was painted one golden winter afternoon when the fading light was warm, and the last leaves of autumn twirled their way to the ground. It depicts a fleeting moment in a changing landscape. A single doe traveling silently beneath sunlit cliffs. There one minute. Blink and she’s gone.
