Travel can open the mind, creating space in our lives for not only new experiences, but also new ways of perceiving the world around us, as well as our place within it. During a time when I lived among the wilds of southern Montana, many miles from civilization, my dining room table was often covered in paper and paint, pens and pastels. I discovered there that when you finally have the time and courage to turn inwards, feelings come forward that words cannot convey. And since I’m not very musical, I turn to paint, where expression can assume the color and form of endless, wordless dialogues, bringing them out into the light of day. Under a vast sea of endless summer sky, with nothing but the wind and the trees to keep us company, I found myself dreaming in blue.
